Everything is changing
Sister Borgia Elementary School strives to nurture a balanced development of the individual child, in harmony with Home, School, Community, and the Roman Catholic Church, thus creating a well-rounded person.
This school was one of the Catholic schools established in August 1978, to cater to the growing school population of St. Maarten in the late seventies.
The Sister Borgia Elementary School is changing. What do we mean?
Sister Borgia Elementary School is transitioning from a traditional primary school into a “Center School” – a primary school that functions more like a high school. This transformation introduces a new structure where each cycle has a distinct approach to teaching and learning:
· Cycle 1 (Groups 1–2): Students focus on foundational skills taught by their own homeroom teacher.
· Cycle 1 (Groups 3–4): Teachers engage in peer-teaching, sharing expertise across classrooms to enrich student learning.
· Cycle 2 (Groups 5–8): Students rotate among specialized subject teachers, similar to a high school model.
Cycle 1 (groups 3-4) and Cycle 2 will have a dedicated homeroom teacher, while subject-specific instruction will be delivered by expert teachers in Dutch and English Language, Science and Technology, Social Studies, and Mathematics.
The goal of the Center School model
The goal of the Center School model is to provide students with high-quality instruction in a rich, engaging learning environment. Subject classrooms will be equipped with materials that support Experiential Learning, including Project-Based Learning. Students will build skills and knowledge tailored to their developmental needs, guided by subject specialists.
Our team of expert educators will monitor and support student progress continuously from Group 1 through Group 8.
