Sister Borgia Elementary School strives to nurture a balanced development of the individual child, in harmony with Home, School, Community, and the Roman Catholic Church, thus creating a well-rounded person.
This school was one of the Catholic schools established in August 1978, to cater to the growing school population of St. Maarten in the late seventies.
The Sister Borgia Elementary School is changing. What do we mean?
The school is shifting from being a typical primary school into a primary school functioning as a high school and becoming a “Center School”. This means the school will become a school with homeroom teachers in each cycle, with expert teachers teaching a main subject area they are specialized in (Dutch and English language, Science and technology, Social Studies and Mathematics).
The aim of the Center school is that pupils receive instruction and guidance from specialized subject teachers in a rich learning environment related to the subject area.
The subject classes will have materials that promote Experiential Learning, which include Project Based Learning. Students will develop skills and knowledge according to their needs with the guidance of the subject teacher. Our team of experts will track student’s development from group 1 to 8.
The development of the Center School
The Center School teaching structure is currently in development with ongoing evaluations and as of school year 2024-2025 we will be redefining the Center school. Groups 1 and 2 will remain with their teacher permanently to give them the proper foundation.
Groups 3 and 4 will be peer teaching with the following subjects: Dutch Language, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Religion and Cultural Artistic Development.
