Opening Speech, Words of Welcome - by. Mrs. J. Greene, Superintendent
Opening Speech for Staff Return After Summer Break
Colleagues in Education; All staff of our Catholic Schools; Good morning!
I am so very happy to welcome you back after what was, for many, a longer-than-usual summer break. I trust it was a time of rest, renewal, and perhaps even a few adventures that reminded you of the richness of life outside our school walls. And yet, as we all know, no vacation ever feels quite long enough—especially when the work we return to is as meaningful and transformative as ours.
Now, whether your break felt like a blink or a breath, I hope it offered you the space to recharge and reflect. As we step into this new academic year 2025-2026, I want to speak blessings over each of you: may this be a year of God’s amazing grace. May you find excitement in your vocation, rediscover the joy of teaching, and experience moments of learning so beautiful they stay with you for a very long time.
We are privileged to work in a field that shapes lives—molding young hearts and minds from the tender age of three, Early Childhood Stimulation, through the wonder years of childhood, all of our Foundation Based Education Schools and After School Programs, into the complexity of adolescence, and beyond, St. Dominic High School; CSEC and International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. What a sacred calling it is to walk alongside students as they discover who they are, what they believe, and how they want to contribute to the world. You are not just educators—you are architects of possibility, mentors of character, and cultivators of hope.
This year, as we continue to navigate a rapidly evolving educational landscape, one topic gaining increasing attention is artificial intelligence. AI is no longer a distant concept—it’s here, woven into the fabric of our daily lives and increasingly into our classrooms. And while it may bring a level of uncertainty, it also brings opportunity. We cannot escape this era, nor should we try. I encourage you to explore it, to make use of it—not as a replacement for your wisdom or creativity, but as a tool to lighten your workload, assist in routine tasks, and free you to focus on what truly matters: the human connection, the spark of curiosity, and the joy of learning.
As we begin this journey together, know that you are deeply valued. Your work matters. Your presence matters. And together, we will make this year extraordinary.
Welcome back—and let’s make it a year filled with grace, growth, and unforgettable moments.
I wish you a great school year as we Embrace God’s Amazing Grace every day afresh
